St. Benedict’s Health Center is a nursing home run largely through donations. Since 1992, St. Ben’s has been receiving monetary donations and the gifts continue to pour in. The money they get from donors is put toward renovations for the facility. Some of the renovations include: the parking lot, a van, furniture, stained glass windows for the chapel, updates for the rooms, kitchen updates, and equipment for physical therapy. Donor dollars provided St. Ben’s with a new and updated beauty shop. Not only can the residents relax and get pampered, but the sinks are handicapped accessible.

On Unit One, the rooms were renovated to become larger and provide more single rooms. Resident Martha Barta commented on the new Unit One rooms, “The room is better. I wouldn’t want to go back to how it was.” The dining area also received a makeover from furniture to background music. Another resident, Ann Marie Neurohr, commented on the dining room updates, “It’s nice. The decorations are nice, and I like the new lights. I especially like that they play music during the meal.” If it were not for donors, St. Ben’s could not provide the quality care they pride themselves in or accommodate the needs of their residents.
