Camp Grassick is a summer camp located five miles south of Dawson, North Dakota. This camp has six different sessions that focus on topics such as: speech/language services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, reading instruction, beginning computer lessons, craft activities, swimming instruction, and supervised recreation.

Many donors get the opportunity to visit the camp and see where their money goes. After seeing what the camp has offered so many people, donors feel comforted in supporting a great cause. There was a woman who had her son attend Camp Grassick when he was about 5 years old. While she was going through a divorce, there was not always financing to fund her son’s stay at the camp. Dan Mimnaugh always comforted her by saying they would figure out a way for her son to continue attending camp. After her rough times, the mother would say, “it meant so much” for Dan to help her out during her hard time.

Camp Grassick has never turned anyone away because he or she could not afford it. Everyone involved with the camp has always had positive comments about the camp. Following are comments as told by parents and teachers of Camp Grassick. “Our children that have attended love this camp. Their growth in self-assurance, self-worth and their ability to do more on their own is immeasurable. They are able to experience things and meet new people that they would not otherwise be able to do. They look forward to returning friends and staff. It helps them read for the next school year.” “My daughter got to experience the joys and adventures of camp life in a very safe, supportive environment. She felt very independent and her self-esteem increased. She also came back from Camp very enthusiastic and happy about life!! Thank you for helping with camp costs. It is often difficult to send two kids to camp especially with special needs. Thank you so much for helping her go to camp!” “Camp Grassick is a wonderful Camp. I have two boys who have attended for several years. Dan and his staff are wonderful people and educators. Both my boys have year round contact with a lot of the staff members and they are all positive role models.” “It teaches my son to work with others in a group setting. It teaches him table manners and personal hygiene, things I’ve been trying to teach him for years. It is amazing when he comes home to see all the progress he has made and how happy he is about camp.” “We live in a small town where our daughter is the only child with Down’s Syndrome in the school system. Camp Grassick gives her the opportunity to meet other girls with the same disability and make friends. It also increases her self-confidence and independence due to the supportive, encouraging and safe environment.” “Develops positive self image, independence, and builds new friendships. My students have always come back with exciting camp adventures. Every one of my students that have attended looks forward to the next summer! The stories and memories stay with them throughout the year. Excellent Program…One of a kind.”
